Technical Details

How It Works

  • Fast-release donor (lactate): Rapidly creates anaerobic conditions and stimulates microbial growth within hours
  • Slow-release donor (vegetable oil): Ferments over time to produce hydrogen and volatile fatty acids
  • Result: Sustained biological activity that supports complete contaminant breakdown

Soybean oil EVO is an ideal slow release electron donor for chlorinated solvent bioremediation.  EVO releases hydrogen for several years with a single injection event.

SLOW RELEASE ELECTRON DONORS

  • Newman Zone 55 Small Droplet EVO – Factory-made emulsions with oil droplets under one micron for maximum mobility. EVO formulations have 65% fermentable content and a minimum of 55% soybean oil by weight and 4% fast release donor (lactate)
  • Newman Zone 60 Small Droplet EVO Factory made emulsions with oil droplets under one micron for maximum mobility. EVO formulations have 72% fermentable content and 60% soybean oil by weight and 6% preservative (ethanol).

Application & Handling

Newman Zone 55 is designed for flexible field application:

  • Diluted prior to injection (typically ≤5% oil by volume)
  • Low viscosity after dilution—pumps easily like water
  • Suitable for:
    • Direct push injection
    • Injection wells
    • Recirculation systems
    • Excavation/backfill applications

Common treatment approaches include source area grids and permeable reactive barriers.

Product Characteristics

  • Oil-in-water emulsion with 55%-60% soybean oil by weight
  • Submicron droplet size (approx. 0.15–0.60 microns)
  • White, opaque liquid
  • Food-grade ingredients
